Courage: Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Courage is bravery; it is strength in the face of difficulty, danger and pain, without being crippled by fear. Courage is the ability to act on one’s beliefs even if others may criticise, deter or ridicule.

Courage can be demonstrated many different ways through strength, endurance, stamina and innovation physically, mentally and emotionally.

The word courage is very interesting. It comes from a Latin root COR, which means ‘heart’. So to be courageous means to live with the heart… The way of the heart is the way of courage. It is to live in insecurity; it is to live in love, and trust; it is to move in the unknown. It is leaving the past and allowing the future to be. [1]

It has been said that, "Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount.” [2]  I suspect this to be true; from experience I have found it takes courage to walk the path of integrity, resilience, patience, advocacy, honesty, kindness, wisdom, solitary and co-operation. When I come to the cor[e] of what courage means to me, I realise it is an act of love, trust and faith; it truly is to live with the heart.
