Unity

Unity is the state of being one; oneness. Unity is a whole or totality as combining all its parts into one.

The word yoga means 'to yoke', unite, oneness and or bliss. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna emphasises that yoga is union, love and the source of all things.

So as you practice and go about your day-to-day life, remember your wholeness, harmony, perfection and connection with everything around you.

“Unity is when we come together with other individuals or groups to form something greater than any of us. For many people, the heart of spirituality is a sense of being part of something larger than ourselves, a unity or oneness with our fellow humans and with the vast and intricate Reality in which we have our existence.

Unity is often built around a common purpose – a harmony of interests or values that create a shared identity. When people are united by shared values and goals, they can move together, synchronizing their efforts to attain things that none could attain alone.

Unity is inclusive. It frees us from the divisiveness of prejudice. We see our commonality without devaluing our differences. A sense of unity can transcend our fear of each other. In unity, the joy of one is the joy of all, and the hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honour of one is the honour of all.” ~ Wisdom Commons.

Quotes

·  “The happiness of one's own heart alone cannot satisfy the soul; one must try to include, as necessary to one's own happiness, the happiness of others.” ~ Paramahansa Yogananda

· “He who is rooted in oneness realizes that I am in every being, wherever he goes, he remains in me. When he sees all beings as equal in suffering or in joy because they are like himself, that man has grown perfect in yoga.” ~ Bhagavad Gita (6.29 – 32).

· “Our lives are like islands in the sea, or like trees in the forest. The maple and the pine may whisper to each other with their leaves ... But the trees also commingle their roots in the darkness underground, and the islands also hang together through the ocean's bottom.” ~ William James, psychologist and philosopher. (1842-1910).

· "We are participants in a vast communion of being, and if we open ourselves to its guidance, we can learn anew how to live in this great and gracious community of truth.” ~ Parker Palmer.

· "The earth community, the Life Community, is not the property of any one religion or group or part of the world; it is the Commons that embraces us all, our planetary home. And it needs us as never before. It calls to us to become, not heroes but community builders, builders of home, gatherers and embracers, bearers of hospitality, keepers of the shared space that nurtures us all. It calls us not to go forth and come back laden with honors but to honor where we are, who we are, and from that place to reach out to connect to and honor. Few are the giants of the soul who actually feel that the human race is their family circle.”  ~ Freya Stark, explorer (1893-1993)
